The Beginning Of Santorini

Santorini is a volcanic island located in the Aegean Sea in Greece. It has a population of over 13,670 people.3,600 years ago, one of the world's largest eruption occured there. This evidently has left the volcanic island of Santorini with a large caldera looking out at the remains of the volcano. The eruption is known as the Minoan Eruption or the Thera eruption. The only ports in santorini are located in the caldera due to the cliffs on the other side of Santorini. It has a major airport running on the island, like a few of the other greeek islands.
Water is scare in Santorini because there are no rivers there.Santorini's main industry is tourism and each year is visited by many holiday makers and honeymooners. This is due to it's archaeological sites and beautiful atmosphere and scenery. The name Santorini is related to Saint Irene and was given this name by the Latin empire back in the thirteenth century. Before it was given this name it was known as Kalliste,''the most beautiful one.''
