Santorini's Influence On The World

Though Santorini does not have as big an influence on the world as the greek empire,it still influences us,especially geographically. The leftovers of the eruption at Santorini has changed the landscape immensely. This change and these volcanic islands have brought people from all over the world to see them. The caldera in the Santorini is so vast a change that it baffles people who visit the island of Santorini. Also, the trend of white-wash buildings has given ideas to many designers and architects around the world. So therefore,Santorini's style has influenced our style. The food from Santorini can now be seen in most of our super markets. This shows that the world loves Santorini's culture and food and that means Santorini has had a bif influence on the world.

The Culture Of Santorini

Due to earthquakes wrecking their economy,Santorini used to be a poor island. They could not buy meat so instead made meatballs out of their famous tomatoes. There is one church for every family in Santorini. Each church is named after a saint. This saint protects the family. When it is that saint's day the family holds a reception for everyone called ''panigiris.''As I mentioned in another post,Santorini is a dry island and sometimes fidn it hard to get there daily needs of water. In order to get enough water each house has a cistern. This collects rainwater in the winter months. They used to have to use leeches to clean and purify the water.Nowadays chemicals are used to do this instead. Also, nowadays with so many ships visiting Santorini,water-carrying ships bring water to Santorini.
The people of Santorini are so friendly and always welcome you with open arms.If you are lost, they will help you.The are also very family orientated and have long, great meals with their whole family. The culture of Santorini is great and there is an amazing atmosphere there.

The Food In Greece

Though in Greece you can find many different types of food the main food eaten by all is greek food.Dinner in greece typical starts late at 10pm and can go on until 1 or 2am!the restaurants are ussually called tavernas and each night every taverna is packed full of people. The atmosphere is amazing and there is music, children running around and the great smell of different dishes. When in Santorini i would suggest you try a greek salad, tzatziki, taramosalata, houmus and any sort of fish. The fish in Santorini is so fresh, and caught that day.I would highly recommend you try squid[kalamari]or octopus. Most days you can witness people hanging the octopus out to dry after catching it.Most food found in Santorini is of great quality and freshness. The water from the tap in Greece is meant to be find but if you are a bit worried, stay with bottled water.

The Volcano of Santorini

2.The remains of the Santorini Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni are located in the basin of Santorini. They are Santorini's main attraction. From the cliffs of the caldera a beautiful colourful sunset can be seen every evening. There are daily cruises which take tourists to visit the remains of the volcano and the black lava. There you can walk on the black lava and up the side of the volcano. From the volcanoes a great view of the villages on the cliffs can be seen.Palea Kameni, the oldest volcano, has hot springs. These hot springs are meant to do wonders for the skin, with their natural healing ingredients. When I visited Santorini I went to the hot springs and the volcanoes. It was a great day out!

The Beginning Of Santorini

Santorini is a volcanic island located in the Aegean Sea in Greece. It has a population of over 13,670 people.3,600 years ago, one of the world's largest eruption occured there. This evidently has left the volcanic island of Santorini with a large caldera looking out at the remains of the volcano. The eruption is known as the Minoan Eruption or the Thera eruption. The only ports in santorini are located in the caldera due to the cliffs on the other side of Santorini. It has a major airport running on the island, like a few of the other greeek islands.
Water is scare in Santorini because there are no rivers there.Santorini's main industry is tourism and each year is visited by many holiday makers and honeymooners. This is due to it's archaeological sites and beautiful atmosphere and scenery. The name Santorini is related to Saint Irene and was given this name by the Latin empire back in the thirteenth century. Before it was given this name it was known as Kalliste,''the most beautiful one.''
